Permanent lighting questions, answered
AuraLux Lighting is an authorized TruLight dealer based in Severance, Colorado. Every system is installed by a master electrician with 15 years of experience. These are the questions we hear most from homeowners in Windsor, Fort Collins, Loveland, Greeley, Timnath, Severance, Johnstown and Milliken.
How much do permanent Christmas lights cost in Northern Colorado?
It depends on how many feet of roofline you light. At our current pricing, a typical system runs about $33–$40 per foot all-in (lights, track, controller, installation and tax). Smaller homes sit at the high end per foot, because the controller is a fixed cost.
- About 100 feet of roofline: roughly $3,800.
- About 150 feet: roughly $5,300.
- About 200 feet: roughly $6,800.
A recent 145-foot install in Windsor came to about $4,700 all-in. Every home is measured and quoted individually, and the consultation and quote are free. Financing is available through Acorn Finance, subject to approval.
Are permanent lights worth it compared to hanging Christmas lights every year?
They're worth it if you'd use them for more than one holiday. You pay once, and the same lights cover Christmas, Halloween, the Fourth of July, game days, birthdays and everyday warm-white accent lighting. There are no ladders, no clips and no takedown. If you only want lights for four weeks a year and don't mind hanging them, a seasonal service can cost less in the short run. Permanent lighting tends to pay off for homeowners who would hire someone every year, or who want year-round curb appeal.
Can permanent lights stay up all year in Colorado?
Yes. That's what they're designed for. TruLight mounts a low-profile track under the eaves and behind the trim, so the lights stay up all year. When they're off, the track matches your trim color, so they're hard to notice during the day.
How long do permanent LED lights last?
TruLight rates its LEDs for 100,000 hours. TruLight estimates that's about 30–35 years at 8 hours a night. That's a rating, not a guarantee.
TruLight's dealer-installed warranty works like this:
- Years 0–5: full replacement of the lights and the control box.
- After year 5: light coverage is prorated through about year 11.
- What's not covered: the control box after year 5, and labor.
The system must be registered within 30 days. We register it for you. Full terms are at thetrulight.com/warranty.
What is the difference between RGB and RGBW permanent lights?
RGB lights make every color, including white, by mixing red, green and blue. Mixed white can look slightly blue or uneven. RGBW lights add dedicated white LEDs. Each TruLight light has 6 LEDs: 3 color (RGB) and 3 dedicated warm white. That gives you about 16 million colors plus a true warm white for everyday use. When you compare brands, ask how many LEDs are in each light and whether the white is dedicated or mixed.
Which permanent lighting system is best?
The best system is one you'll still like in ten years, installed by someone who'll still answer the phone. Compare brands on these points:
- LEDs per light, and whether there's a dedicated warm white.
- Spacing between lights. TruLight spaces its lights about 8–9 inches apart.
- Whether every light is individually addressable. Every TruLight light can be set on its own.
- System voltage. TruLight is 48V.
- What the warranty covers and for how long.
- Whether the installer is licensed.
AuraLux installs TruLight because it checks those boxes. We'll gladly walk you through how it compares to anything else you're considering.
